London & South East Regional Final held at the Spectrum Leisure Centre, Guildford on Sunday 26th February 2006.
The Sportshall Regional Final, organised by Sportshall Associates, took place at the Spectrum at Guildford on Sunday the 26th February. Teams from Essex, Sussex, Kent, Middlesex and Surrey competed for the honour of representing the South East Region at the National Championships at Birmingham on the 9th April. It was a very strongly fought match with individual honours being spread more widely than usual.In the U15 categories the girls did particularly well. Jade Phillips (HHH) was second overall, Anita cooper (HHH) was third with Robin St.Luce -Boyce (HHH) taking 5= place. The team beat Essex by the slim margin of 3 points.
For the U15 Boys, Ramon Wright (Walton AC) took second place (only 1 point behind the winner), Tom Kennedy (SLH) was 5th and Tunde Amosu (Selhurst School) was 6th. The team was 2nd overall 23 pints behind Essex.
In the U13 categories the Girls team were second to Essex by 57 points. Jessica Collins (Guildford & Godalming AC) took 1st place in the Triple Jump and Harriet Field (SLH) was 1st in the 6 lap race. The Boys were also second to Essex but this time by 34 points.First places went to Khali Njoya (Selhurst School) in the Shot, Louis Johnson (Walton AC) in the Vertical Jump and to Andre Thomas-Richards (HHH) in the 2 lap race.
Medal presentations were made by Dean Macey who is shortly off to Melbourne, Australia, to compete in the decathlon at the Commonwealth Games.
Simon Tuckey, the interim chair for the new London Region of England Athletics, came to see what Sportshall was all about and left being favourably impressed by the enthusiasm of all taking part.
