On 20th September 2007 UK Athletics published on its website (www.ukathletics.net) a report on the second stage of its competition review. It covers track & field competition and focuses on the Under 20 age groups. UKA is inviting comments/feedback. According to SEAA the regions of England Athletics are undertaking a consultation process with a completion date of 15th October 2007.
The survey document referred to by SEAA primarily covers events promoted by SEAA but does allow for the expression of views on the proposals in the report. The UKA document refers to the responsibility for implementing the changes being led by UKA in conjunction with England Athletics and does not mention any process for consulting with clubs on the proposals. Therefore, at present, this Competition Survey appears to be the only opportunity for clubs to make their views known.
Below are links to the UKA documents, the SE Competition Survey and letters sent by SCAA to (a) England Athletics and
(b) Surrey T&F clubs. All the documents are in pdf format.

THOUGHTS FROM GEOFF PLATT - SURREY SENIOR MEN TEAM MANAGER
Geoff Platt, the Surrey Team Manager for Senior Men and the Surrey Lead Coach has some advice for those Senior Men with an ambition to represent their county: “Run a bit further!”.
Geoff says, “As athletes finish their season and start to make plans for 2008, I would point out that whilst, in fielding a Senior Mens team, Surrey can fill the stadium with 100 and 200 Metre runners, above that distance they get a bit thin, so that we only have one 10,000 Metre runner and one 3,000 Metre Steeplechaser anywhere near the Inter Counties qualifying.”
He goes on to say, “In the field events, it is the same with the Hammer. In the three years that I have been Senior Mens Team Manager for Surrey, I have not yet managed to find a Hammer Thrower willing and able to represent their county in the Inter Counties. There are some excellent Hammer Coaches in and around Surrey Tony Cook at Kingston, Al Staerk on the Hampshire borders and Michael Davis at Bromley, so the help is there for those who want it.”

SURREY SQUAD DAY, SUTTON ARENA, 14 JANUARY 2007 - PHOTO GALLERY
A record number of young athletes attended the third of four Surrey Squad days this winter. Although the attendance was adversely affected by the Indoor Competition at Brunel and a major cross country competition, seventy five athletes participated in a full programme of events.
It was particularly pleasing to see Maureen Jones coaching six athletes in the Pole Vault and Shaun Lightman double the size of his Race Walking Squad!
Two targets have been set by Lead Coach, Geoff Platt, for the final Squad day in March, one to continue increasing the number of athletes attending and secondly to exceed the magic number of one hundred athletes. Rumour has it that we may be the first County to achieve this!
Can you afford to let others take advantage of this coaching if you don't?
