SURREY SQUAD DAY, SUNDAY, 10TH FEBRUARY 2008
The latest version of the Surrey Athletics Squad took place on Sunday at Sutton Arena, with seventy athletes present, together with twenty coaches and twenty sports scientists. We were greatly honoured to be joined on this occasion by Mr Frank Dick O.B.E. President of the European Athletics Coaches Association and former Performance Director at U.K. Athletics, who gave a tremendously motivating presentation to the young, ambitious athletes present. Despite a couple of late calls on his time from television, Frank insisted on fulfilling his promise to the young athletes to share his knowledge and experience with them and was received with rapt attention and exited to rapturous applause. I would like to express our appreciation to Frank for giving of his precious time so freely and to Lorna Booth, a Coach on the Squad, who assisted with the arrangements. The latest development to the squad, the presence of a Chartered Physiotherapist and a Sports Therapist and Masseur, developed with several athletes requested advice and assessment and it was good to see that even obviously injured athletes turned up to see what they could learn from the day and how they could contribute to it.
